What is the Most Expensive Drink in the World?

Have you noticed how really expensive drinks are becoming popular again? It’s kind of surprising, considering the economy, but more and more people are asking their bartender to reach for the top shelf when they’re out drinking.

So it’s one thing to trade in your can of Milwaukee’s Best for a drink that takes more than the change in your couch to pay for, but it’s another thing to drink something truly impressive. Whether we’re talking about beer, wine, or mixed drinks, there are some pretty eye-popping drinks out there with even more eye-popping price tags. Still, there can be only one “most expensive” drink in the world.

What is the most expensive beer in the world?

When you think of beer, you probably don’t think of it as a particularly expensive drink, unless you’ve ever bought one at a ball game or a gentleman’s club. Not every beer, however, goes on sale at the local grocery store every holiday. There are some specialty craft beers and upscale brews that come with a very respectable price tag.

Would you pay $110 for a six-pack of beer? You would have to if you wanted Sapporo’s Space Barley, a beer made from barley grown in the International Space Station, according to an article on mentalfloss.com.

Another high-priced beer is Brewdog’s The End of History, which is considered to be the second most-expensive and third-strongest beer on the planet. The $765 price tag for a 330 ml bottle is more impressive when you realize that the bottle is actually made out of stuffed roadkill—now that’s appetizing.

Probably the most expensive beer in the world would be Antarctic Nail Ale by Nail Brewing. A 500 ml bottle will set you back up to $1,815 at auction, although it has gone as cheap as $800. The good news is that the money goes to a good cause—the proceeds go to the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, an animal rights organization made famous by the television series “Whale Wars.”

What is the most expensive wine in the world?

When most people picture an expensive drink, they’re thinking about the 200 year-old bottle of wine that gets delivered by a smug waiter in a French restaurant to go with some disgusting-looking plate of sautéed garden pests disguised as food. It turns out that there’s some truth to this perception, as some of the most expensive drinks in the world do come from the vine.

Speaking of pretentious French wines, you may as well start with Château Margaux 1787, with a price tag of $519,750 per bottle. For a less pretentious counterpoint in the same price range (about $500,000), there is California’s Screaming Eagle. With each bottle yielding maybe six glasses of wine, you’re looking at a crisp $83,000 or more per glass with either of these wines.

There is, however, a whole other level of wine insanity waiting for you. Americanlivewire.com reports that the renowned red wine Romanee Conti has two varieties that sell for over $22 million. That’s more than $3.5 million per glass, if you’re keeping score.

What is the most expensive hard liquor in the world?

There really isn’t such a thing as cheap liquor or spirits anymore. Even a good jar of moonshine will probably run you twenty bucks, plus a couple of hundred dollars bail if you get caught in possession of it. But even beyond the $50 bottle of Irish whiskey in the store, there are some bottles that will really take it up a notch.

Wray and Nephew Rum will definitely cost you a pirate’s booty, with a price tag of $54,000 per bottle. Not impressed? Maybe it’s time to introduce you to the millionaire’s club of drinking stuff.

If you’ve got over $1.5 million to spend on a bottle of liquor, an article on KSUbuzz.com shows that you’ve got some options. First off, at $1.5 million, there’s La Ley del Diamante Tequila. For $1.6 million there is Diva Premium, an English vodka. (I know, right? English—who would have thought?)

What is the most expensive mixed drink in the world?

So, if you take really expensive drinks and combine them, is the result more or less expensive? It would appear to be more. According to the Huffington Post, Heffernan has combined some expensive ingredients to make the most expensive cocktail in the world.

The new cocktail, the “Winston,” is a mixture of $6,200-a-shot Croizet Cognac, Grand Marnier Quintessence, a little bit of Angostura bitters, and Chartreuse Vieillissement Exceptionnellement Prolonge. It is served with a garnish of chocolate nutmeg dust, sugar vines, and the essence of roses and poppy. The whole creation takes about 16 hours to complete and comes with a total price tag of $13,000.

When you look at all of the different types of expensive drinks in the world, it is clear that you can find a way to spend big money regardless of what your drink of choice is. Of them all, however, it would appear that the $3.5 million glass of wine from Romanee Conti is the most expensive of all. It’s probably fair to assume that it’s not served in a red Solo cup.
