Supporting orphan children living at the Camillian Home
Camillian Home is a registered non-profit children’s charity operating on behalf of the St. Camillus Foundation of Thailand. The Home was founded by Father Giovanni Contarin, an Italian Priest who has done extensive work for the poor in Thailand since 1987. The charity works with children who are living with disabilities, some of whom have been orphaned or abandoned, and some of whom are also living with HIV/AIDS.
Situated in Lat Krabang in the outskirts of Bangkok, the Camillian Home is a unique facility designed to allow each child to receive specialized care and treatment in an environment that encourages and develops the capability of each child, regardless of the severity of their condition. The children are stimulated mentally and physically thanks to a full-time staff of teachers, caretakers, physical therapists and a resident nurse. Therefore, even an eleven year-old girl who is blind, autistic, wheelchair-bound and orphaned is now living a life in which she smiles and laughs every day.
Camillian Home is one of the few facilities in Thailand dedicated to caring for these children in a family atmosphere, and it aims to serve as a model in caring for vulnerable children with special needs. Significant work is also being carried out for disabled people living in the community. Disabled people and their families often face embarrassment, discrimination and misconception from the general public. As part of an integrated approach, medical and social workers support disabled people living in the local community by providing medical care, adaptive equipment, training and establishing long term personal relationships.
The Camillian Home receives very little government support, but instead survives on the generous support and donations from individuals and corporations.
Italasia created a wonderful campaign to support them. For each bottle of the wines with the Camillian sticker 50 THB will be donated to Camillian Home.
The selected wines are three:
Conegliano Valdobbiadene is an inimitable wine, Prosecco Superiore. It is a wine you will be able to recognize blind once you have tasted it. A fine, fresh, elegant ambassador for a unique region of steep hills covered in a dense coverlet of vineyards. Since the 1st of April 2010, in order to safeguard this precious treasure created by man and nature, Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore has become part of Italy’s premium wine category: D.O.C.G.. A “G” that stands for Guaranteed quality in every single bottle.
A Ruby red, thick and intense, with a deep violet rim. The nose is complex, fruity and spicy, with a clear hint of forest fruit, tobacco and licorice. The mouthfeel is rich, full bodied, aromatic and persistent, with an abundance of soft and tender tannins.
100% Cabernet Franc from Tuscany, Il Paratino’s Ino 2011 displays a deep ruby red color accompanied by intensely focused ripe red berry fruit aromas with hints of balsamic vinegar and fresh herb accents. The palate is generous and balanced with good freshness and zest.
It is a wine produced by the community of San Patrignano, always engaged in social work.
