This Taiwanese whisky’s name is quite a mouthful and it packs a punch as well. The whisky was aged in casks which have held both red and white wines before being re-toasted. The abv is 58.60 % which is on the higher side yet it’s palate is surprisingly smooth. With caramel, marzipan, dried black fruits and a dry finish. It won World’s Best Single Malt Whisky and Best Asian Single Malt.

The Japanese are known for their excellent whiskies. Obviously the country is represented in this list as well. This bottle has won World’s Best Blended Malt Whisky and Best Japanese Blended Malt. Pungent and oily, its nose has lots of toasty, sweet oak developing into a sawdusty and mature character. A gentle palate with mature honey, citrus and a spicy finish.

The World’s Best American Whiskey and Best American Rye comes from the Buffalo Trace Distillery, located in Kentucky. This rye has a lush and bold nose. The palate has flavours of toffee, candied fruit followed by mint, cinnamon and clove. A long and warm finish reveals subtle notes of allspice and coconut.

Darkness! North British 18 Years Old Oloroso Cask FinishDarkness! North British 18 Years Old Oloroso Cask Finish

The World’s Best Grain Whisky comes from the United Kingdom. It has a characterful nose with a lot of oak characteristics, fresh toast, sugared almonds and spices. The palate consists of brown sugar, blueberry, a touch of evaporated milk, sweet spice and rich caramel. Crème brûléé and nutmeg for finish.

All these whiskies are at this point expensive and hard to get. If you can get your hands on the bottle, we’ll happily trade you a nice bottle of wine for it. If you’re eager to try some of the world’s best, you can order the WWA 2015 Tasting Set Bottling Note. To check out the other winners, go to World Whiskeys Awards
